Statement on Passing of Kauai Mayor Bryan Baptiste
June 23, 2008
Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) issued the following statement today:
"Mayor Baptiste was a dear friend. While we belonged to opposing political parties, I enjoyed working with Bryan and I always knew his heart was in the right place. He reached across barriers and brought people together to solve problems. He came from a family with a history of public service and I know he made his ohana proud. The people of Kauai have lost a champion."
