Hoyer Statement on Passing of Former Congressman Henry Hyde
WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the passing of former Congressman Henry Hyde, who served as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and the House International Relations Committee:
“We are all saddened today by the loss of Congressman Henry Hyde. The people of Illinois and this nation have lost a dedicated public servant who was a tireless advocate for liberty and democracy around the world. He was respected in the halls of Congress as a good debater, for his thoughtfulness, and for his knowledge of the issues.
“Having served his country in World War II, in the Illinois House of Representatives, and in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Hyde’s contributions will long be remembered. He received a fitting tribute earlier this month by being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, this nation’s highest civilian honor. I would like to send my deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
