Useful Information for Senate visitors

Security Screening

i. Before entry into the Capitol, all visitors are screened by a magnetometer, and all items that visitors may bring inside the building are screened by an x-ray device.

ii. Prohibited Items – Visitors are not permitted to bring into the Capitol the following items:

(1) aerosol and non-aerosol sprays

(2) cans and bottles

(3) food and beverages

(4) oversized suitcases, duffle bags and oversized backpacks

(5) knives of any length

(6) razors and box cutters

(7) mace and pepper spray

(8) Please note that the Capitol Police are authorized to make exceptions if a prohibited item is determined to be necessary and required to serve child care, medical or other special needs.
