Because of Senator Murray's work, the Puget Sound received the first Marine Safety and Security Team (MSST) in the nation, which was commissioned on July 3, 2002 at a ceremony at Pier 36.

These highly-trained and well-armed crews can operate under the threat of hostile chemical, biological or radiological attacks.
