FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EIA Resumes Semimonthly Dissemination of Residential Winter Fuels Prices

Effective February 10, 1997, the Energy Information Administration will no longer publish the residential heating oil and propane prices on a weekly schedule. Prices will resume their normal publication cycle of twice a month.

Due to recent price decreases in both the wholesale and retail markets, and barring any further long-term severe winter weather, EIA requested that the States resume a semimonthly collection cycle for the remainder of the heating season (February 17 through March 17, 1997). Residential heating oil and propane prices are collected by twenty-four State Energy Offices who participate with the EIA in a cooperative agreement during the winter heating season.

Residential price data are published in the Weekly Petroleum Status Report, and appear on EIA's World Wide Web site on the Internet at http://www.eia.doe.gov. For further information regarding this program, contact Alice Lippert at 202-586-9600.
