DOLE ANNOUNCES VA OUTPATIENT CLINIC TO OPEN IN FRANKLIN
September 27th, 2007 - Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole today announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will open a Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Franklin. The clinic is expected to serve veterans from Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties by mid-2008.
“I celebrate this great news with the community leaders in Western North Carolina who have worked for so long to make this a reality,” said Dole. “Our veterans have made enormous sacrifices to protect our country and our freedoms, and we have a profound responsibility to do everything we can to enhance their quality of life. I am pleased that this new clinic will make health care more accessible to veterans in the western part of our state.”
According to the VA, this clinic will provide outpatient primary care and general mental health services, along with pharmacy consultation, nutrition education and social services. Approximately 14,000 veterans live in the clinic service area.
