WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) congratulated Chairman John L. Berrey of the Quapaw Tribe on his swearing-in today to his Presidential appointment to serve on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. The appointment is for a four year term to end in 2012.

"I congratulate John Berrey on his swearing-in to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation,” Senator Inhofe said. “John is a valued partner in working to bring relief to the residents who live near the Tar Creek Superfund site and the environmental clean up of the site.  He is the first chairman of the Quapaw Tribe to successfully work to lift the moratorium on chat sales at Tar Creek. This accomplishment allows the chat to be used as a resource and not simply as waste. As a result, the selling of chat is now a benefit to the tribe.  I know John will bring the same kind of innovation and dedication to his work on the Council."

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is an independent federal agency that promotes the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of our nation's historic resources, and advises the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy.
