Conrad Recognized for Farm Bill Leadership
National Farmer's Union Honors Senator for Delivering Quality Ag Legislation
Washington - The National Farmers Union honored Senator Kent Conrad today with their most prestigious honor - the Golden Triangle award - in recognition of his work in securing a Farm Bill that delivers unprecedented support for nutrition programs and important provisions to break the nation’s dependence on foreign oil.
“The Farm Bill is the single most important legislation to North Dakota’s economy, and I am proud to have played a role in its negotiation and passage,” Senator Conrad said. “I believe we would not have achieved this victory for our farmers and ranchers without the dogged efforts of the National Farmer Union. Their tireless efforts made the difference between securing an acceptable bill and one that truly benefits our farmers and ranchers.”
As Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and a senior member of the Senate Agriculture and Finance Committees, Senator Conrad was recognized by the Farmers Union for his role in delivering a farm bill that features a standing disaster provision, new energy incentives, and commodity support level increases for North Dakota’s crops.
“The Farm Bill doesn’t just affect North Dakota’s family farmers and ranchers. It matters to Main Street businesses in every North Dakota town,” Senator Conrad said. “I believe we have secured the best Farm Bill ever for North Dakota thanks in no small part to the Farmers Union.”
Senator Conrad has received a total of 16 Golden Triangle awards, the most ever awarded by the National Farmers Union.
