Hawaii Sens. Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka were on the winning side when the Senate voted today to authorize intelligence activities for the current year.
The measure that was approved 51-45 would ban the CIA's use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation methods.
Inouye and Akaka joined 43 other Democrats, five Republicans and one independent. One Democrat, 43 Republicans and one independent voted against the measure.
President Bush has threatened to veto any measure that limits the agency's interrogation techniques.
