July 22, 2005 - (Washington, D.C.) — U.S. Sen. David Vitter was successful in including language directing Louis Armstrong International Airport to pursue a regional governance plan in the Senate Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, HUD, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, which passed out of the Appropriations Committee yesterday. “This language will help promote regional governance at the Louis Armstrong International Airport and give residents of Jefferson, St. John, St. Charles and St. Tammany parishes a seat at the table,” said Vitter. Vitter has included the language directing the airport to pursue a regional governance plan in transportation appropriations bills for the past several years and it prevents the airport from using federal funds for runway expansions until the city of New Orleans incorporates governance from surrounding areas. The Senate Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, HUD, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill will move to the Senate floor for a vote later this year. Once passed, a House-Senate Conference Committee will produce a final agreement for passage in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. |
