Vitter Announces Decision to Add St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes to Disaster Declaration

September 4, 2008 -  Untitled Document

(Alexandria, LA) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today announced the White House’s decision to add St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes to Louisiana’s Disaster Declaration.  Vitter had earlier sent a letter to President George W. Bush urging his support for Governor Bobby Jindal’s request for an emergency declaration for Debris Removal (Category A) and Direct Federal Assistance and for Individual Assistance for all 64 parishes in Louisiana.

“While some parishes fared better than others, the impact of Gustav on our state was significant and far-reaching,” said Vitter.  “I urged the President to approve Governor Jindal’s request and include all 64 parishes on the disaster declaration.  This decision will ensure that the residents of St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes will be eligible to receive the federal assistance need to move forward from this storm.”
