June 23, 2005 - (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator David Vitter announced that the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Bill included language that gives the National Finance Center (NFC) the ability to actively market its services and expand its cross-servicing activities. The bill passed out of the Appropriations Committee today. “I am grateful that my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee appreciate the important work of the National Finance Center and are allowing the chief financial officer to actively market the center and expand its cost-effective service activities,” said Vitter. Located in eastern New Orleans, the NFC, which is operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, currently has more than 1,700 federal employees and an additional 200 contract personnel in and around the greater New Orleans region. This language allows the NFC to expand “cross-servicing” functions, or performing similar services for other government agencies. These functions generate additional revenue for the NFC and can help create additional jobs. “While this is only the first step in the legislative process, it is an important one for growing jobs at the NFC,” Vitter said. “I will continue to work with my colleagues to see that this language is included in the final bill.” The Senate Agriculture Appropriations Bill is expected to move to the Senate floor for a vote later this year. |
