July 21, 2005 - (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator David Vitter announced that $250,000 in federal funding for the Alexandria Central Economic Development District (ACEDD) was included in the Senate Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, HUD, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, which passed out of the Appropriations Committee today. “I appreciate that my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee understand the importance that development projects can have on an entire community,” said Vitter. “This federal funding will stimulate economic development in central Louisiana and improve the quality of life for area residents.” The ACEDD is charged with the redevelopment of depressed and underdeveloped areas within its district. This $250,000 in funding will be used to implement a redevelopment plan, “The Alexandria Riverfront Development of the Red River.” “While this is only the first step in the legislative process, it is an important one for securing funding for the Alexandria Riverfront Development,” Vitter said. “I will continue to work with my colleagues to see that this funding is included in the final bill.” The Senate Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, HUD, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill is expected to move to the Senate floor for a vote later this year. |
