July 1, 2005 - (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator David Vitter announced that the U.S. Senate passed the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill late yesterday, which included $150,000 in federal funding for a levee and flood-control project in Bossier Parish. “Water projects are particularly important for Louisiana because of our need for flood prevention efforts,” said Vitter. “This federal money will promote safety for homeowners in northwest Louisiana.” The bill provides $150,000 for Bossier Parish Levee and flood-control efforts, allowing for the exploration of alternatives to address water resource problems and needs. A comprehensive study is required to balance the competing demands of flooding, increased water use and decline of environmental resources, and it is critical to ensure the wise and efficient use of the basin’s water resources in this area. The Energy and Water Appropriations Bill has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives and will now move to a House-Senate conference committee where a final agreement will be produced. “As the bill moves to a House-Senate conference committee, I will continue to impress upon my colleagues the importance of these projects to Louisiana and work to see that this funding is included in the final version of the bill,” said Vitter. |
