Vitter Working to Advance Grand Isle Mutliplex Center |

June 23, 2005 - (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator David Vitter announced that the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Bill included language that gives the Grand Isle Multiplex Center preference in future federal funding. The bill passed out of the Appropriations Committee today. “The Grand Isle Multiplex Center has the potential to be a facility that meets many needs of the community – medicinal, recreational and emergency shelter needs,” said Vitter. “It could meet these needs while also providing an economic catalyst for associated businesses.” The bill includes language to give the center preference in receiving federal grants. The new Grand Isle Multiplex Center is designed to cater to physical fitness and social needs of all age groups. Health facilities are planned for specialized diagnostics and treatment for orthopedic concerns. An adjacent facility will include physical therapy and rehabilitation capabilities. The Town of Grand Isle will also be able to use this facility as a command center and emergency shelter during hurricane evacuations, which typically threatens the area several times during each hurricane season. “While this is only the first step in the legislative process, it will help advance the work for the Grand Isle Multiplex Center,” Vitter said. “I will continue to work with my colleagues to see that this language is included in the final bill.” The Senate Agriculture Appropriations Bill is expected to move to the Senate floor for a vote later this year. |
