(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today announced that a $1,577,519 grant has been awarded to St. Charles Parish by the Minerals Management Service. The grant will fund a project to install more than 3,800 feet of rock dike near the shoreline of Lake Salvador. “This project is another important step in our efforts to protect south Louisiana’s wetlands,” Vitter said. “It is evidence of a commitment by local, state and federal officials to securing the future of our state.” The project is part of the state’s Coastal Impact Assistance Program plan. The current MMS grant will fund the parish’s portion of the project, which along with a portion funded by the state of Louisiana aims to reduce by half Lake Salvador’s shoreline erosion rate. |
