January 25, 2006 -

(Washington, D.C.)U.S. Sen. David Vitter announced today that the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department will receive a $45,714 federal grant to support its services in the community through operations and firefighter safety programs.

The Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department will receive $45,714 in federal funds to help equip its firefighters. This one-year grant award goes directly to fire departments to support firefighters and the services they deliver.

The funds can be used for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness and modifications to fire stations and facilities.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
