The Historic Government Publications from World War II contains 343 Informational pamphlets, government reports, instructions, regulations, declarations, speeches, and propaganda materials distributed by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) during the Second World War.
The documents, which reflect the thinking of the time, range widely in topics. You can view information on many categories, such as women's issues, children's issues, pocket guides to other countries, and more. You can view series, like the Victory Bulletin and 10 issues of the State Summary of War Casualties.
The GPO's Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) is SMU's digital preservation partner for this collection.
SMU has published two other digital collections of World War II materials: the Melvin C. Shaffer World War II Photographs and the Frank J. Davis War II Photographs. The Melvin C. Shaffer World War II Photographs and images depict the indigenous populations and local conditions of North Africa, Italy/Southern France, and Germany from the years 1943 to 1945. Frank J. Davis’ frontline photographs and images portray life during World War II, including images from Washington, DC; Italy; France; and Saipan.
The documents were scanned as 300 dpi .jpg files and converted into .pdfs in Adobe Acrobat 5. Optical character recognition software was not used. As a result, any searches within the collection will return words or phrases from the metadata, or object information, only.
