Dodd Statement on Venezuelan Government's Expulsion of U.S. Ambassador
September 12, 2008

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman of its Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps, and Narcotics Affairs, released the following statement today on the Venezuelan government’s decision to expel United States Ambassador Patrick Duddy.

“The Venezuelan Government’s expulsion of U.S. Ambassador Patrick Duddy from Caracas yesterday was an unprovoked and egregious violation of diplomatic norms.  I condemn the Venezuelan government’s action and the vulgar and completely false attacks it has made on the U.S. Ambassador.

“This unjustified action is a petty and desperate attempt by the Venezuelan Government to shift the blame for its incompetent governance and internal turmoil onto the United States.  Venezuelans and Americans alike will not be fooled.”
