Adult Education


Adult Education Works in Indiana is a workforce education project of the Indiana Department of Education's adult education system that links basic skills instruction to workforce demands. Indiana adult education programs offer on-site, customized workforce basic skills consultation, assessment, and instruction to Hoosier businesses. In addition, the Indiana Department of Education offers links such as Adult Learners: GED Information, Adult Educators: New and Veteran, Administrators, Employers, Program Locations, Performance Data, and other valuable links.


Indiana University's Adult Education Program has a renowned history. It was established in 1946 and enjoys an outstanding reputation as one of the nation's oldest adult education programs. With the transition in 1998 to an interactive online format , you can design a plan of study that meets your professional needs and fits your schedule.


Established in 1986 through state legislation, the Indiana Adult Literacy Coalition (IALC) is a voluntary advisory board. As cited in Public Law 160-1996, the mission of the IALC is to (1) promote lifelong learning for Indiana residents so that Indiana residents may participate fully in family, community, civic, employment, and education opportunities and (2) encourage the coordination of state agency activity related to adult literacy.
