Iraq

I am grateful to the Coalition forces who have eliminated Saddam’s control over Iraq, and helped deliver historic democratic elections to the Iraqi people. Our men and women in uniform have fought valiantly during this conflict. Their courage under fire and determination to see this conflict to the end have sustained our military operations and proved to be a deciding factor. Those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country deserve our highest praise and honor.

I look forward to working in the 110th Congress with my Senate colleagues towards reconciling competing visions for what needs to happen in Iraq. The mission of our military men and women in Iraq is of utmost importance to us here at home. We must overcome the challenges in Iraq and continue to make progress in the fight against terrorism as it is important to regional peace and U.S. national security.
