Digital Library Federation Panel discusses Moving Image Preservation
November 6, 2007 -- Carl Fleischhauer, a program officer in the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP), joined with a panel of fellow experts at the 2007 Digital Library Federation (DLF) Fall Forum, held in Philadelphia.

The Moving Images and Digital Libraries panel helped provide a focused snapshot of the current state of moving image collections in digital libraries, with the intention of augmenting collaboration and strategic planning within the DLF community. Fleischhauer discussed the latest thinking on content wrappers, bitstream encodings, metadata and format profiles as they pertain to the Library of Congress's acquisition of born-digital content. He also spoke about emerging reformatting practices at the Library's new facility for audiovisual collections and a handful of notable NDIIPP projects.
Fleischhauer was joined by Kara Van Malssen, who reported on New York University's work for the NDIIPP Preserving Public Television project. The panel also included Dave Rice of Democracy Now! and Helen Tibbo from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
