Use of Mass Mail to Defraud Consumers

The Subcommittee held a hearing to examine the use of mass mail to defraud consumers to include sweepstakes and government look-a-like mail. Witnesses were the Honorable Ben Nighthorse Campbell, United States Senator; Mr. Ken Hunter, Chief Inspector, United States Postal Inspection Service; the Honorable Robert A. Butterworth, Attorney General, State of Florida; Mr. Stanley Pruss, Assistant Attorney General, State of Michigan; Mr. Richard A. Barton, Senior Vice President, Direct Marketing Association Inc.; and Mr. William E. Arnold, Ph.D., Director of Gerontology, Arizona State University.
