Tissue Banks:  Is The Federal Government's Oversight Adequate?

This hearing will examine alleged problems in the tissue industry, such as
claims of excessive charges and profit-making within the industry, problems
in obtaining appropriate informed consent from donor families, and issues related to quality control in processing tissue. The hearing also aims to evaluate whether current regulatory efforts are adequate to ensure the safety of human tissue transplants. 
Witnesses will include representatives from Department of Health & Human
Service, Inspector General's Office, medical professionals familiar with tissue
industry practices, and representatives from the Food & Drug Administration. A final witness list will be available soon.
