Chicago To Get Help To Fight Gangs, But Funding Wanted

Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says Chicago will get more federal help in fighting street gangs, but it may not be as much help as he wants.
WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore has the story.
Sen. Durbin is still asking the Bush Administration to include Chicago among the cities that are part of a multi-million-dollar federal anti-gang initiative. It would mean about $2 million, but so far Chicago’s not included.
But, Durbin says he’s been promised help from Mark Filip, the No. 2 official at the Justice Department who lives in Chicago.
The good news, says Durbin, is that the Justice Department is going to conduct a gang crimes training session for authorities here in Chicago this summer.
And Durbin says he’s scrounging the federal budget for money anti-gang money.
