On Monday, April 23, I meet with Ray Jardine, the President of Native Hawaiian Vets, LLC to get an update on his company's activities.

Later Monday afternoon, I will meet with students and teachers from Mililani Middle School, who are in Washington, D.C. to participate in a special program focusing on our federal government.

Tuesday morning, Hawaii representatives to the American Stroke Association's Heart & Stroke Lobby Day will stop by my office to express support for the Center For Disease Control and Prevention's Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention program.

Later Tuesday morning, the Armed Services Committee meets to continue its review of the FY 2008 Defense Authorization.

Also Tuesday morning, I meet with Hawaii representatives to the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology Conference to discuss health related issues.

Also Tuesday morning, I meet with Rene Berthiaume, Chairman of the Hawaii State Rehabilitation Council, Joe Cordova, Hawaii State Vocational Rehabilitation Administrator, and Cheryl Beeverdorr, President of the National Coalition for Homeless Vets, to discuss reauthorization of the Rehabilitation Act as well as other vet issues.

At noon, I will make brief remarks during Financial Literacy Day on the Hill, for which I am serving as co-Chair.

Tuesday afternoon, I am Chairing the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness hearing on the readiness of US ground forces.

Wednesday morning, I will attend the American Optometric Association's Annual Conference to receive their 2007 Health Care Leadership Award.

Later Wednesday morning, I meet with Ed Sulliban and Bobbie Lau, Hawaii representatives from the Institute for Real Estate Management.

Wednesday afternoon, I am Chairing the Veterans' Affairs Committee hearing on oversight of mental health legislation.

Thursday morning, the Armed Services Committee will meet to discuss legal issues regarding individuals detained as unlawful enemy combatants.

Later Thursday morning, I will meet with students and teachers from Kahakai Elementary School from Kailua-Kona.

Thursday afternoon, I will Chair the Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks hearing on a number of measures before the 110th Congress.

Later Thursday afternoon, I meet with Hawaii Chapter representatives of the National Association of Social Workers to discuss various legislation of interest to social workers.

Friday morning, I meet with Rear Admiral Townsend Alexander to discuss various Navy projects including Kalaeloa.

Later Friday morning, I will meet with Jami Muranaka, Hawaii's 2007 Teacher of the Year. As a former teacher and school principal, I look forward to meeting Ms. Muranaka, who teaches at Kaimuki High School.
