About Ben: Why I'm Proud to be a Nebraskan?

Why I'm Proud to be a Nebraskan

No matter where I travel in the world, I can’t wait to return to my home in Nebraska. People say home is where the heart is, lucky for me the Heartland is my home. Outsiders might not see much but those of us who are fortunate enough to have grown up here know that Nebraska is truly something special.

This land is so special because of what it was built on. We are a state that was, and still is, based upon agriculture, hard work and values. These go hand in hand. The greatest time of year is when you can look across the countryside and see field after field of green crops. While the sight itself is spectacular, the real beauty is what has been put into these fields. These fields represent years of hard work and dedication by men and women who are genuinely honest and caring. Nebraskans are people who value their family, community and country. Nebraskans are people who would, in a split second, take the time to help out a neighbor.

What I truly enjoy and embrace about Nebraska is the people, my friends and neighbors. From McCook to South Sioux City , the people of Nebraska represent what all Americans hold true to their hearts. Nebraskans are honest, hard working people that know their neighbor’s name, that help each other during harvest, that pray together, that gather to watch high school football games, that support their local farmer at the market and would never miss a Husker game. It doesn’t matter where you go in the state, it is impossible not to find a good, honest Nebraskan who will make you feel welcome in their community.

No matter what part of this great state you are in, the feeling of community is overwhelming. From Scottsbluff to Omaha, Nebraska’s small town ideals have remained the same. It is remarkable to see how the entire state comes together. On fall Saturday’s over 70,000 Husker fans flock to Memorial stadium and thousands more huddle around televisions and radios to support Nebraska. Through just a glimpse of this sea of red, the loyalty and commitment of Nebraskans shines.

The reason why I’m proud to be a Nebraskan is simple. Nebraska is a beautiful land, full of promise, hope, wonderful people and all that is good about America.
