$3.35 Million In Akaka Projects Get Appropriations Committee Approval

Many Hawaii Health, Economic Development, and Education Programs To Benefit

Washington, D.C. - Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI) is pleased to announce today a number of health, economic development, and education programs and projects have been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Senator Akaka was instrumental in securing funding for the following:

  • Arc of Hilo’s Client Support Services Facility planning and construction - $400,000
  • University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Clinical Pharmacy Program and Applied Rural Science Program - $750,000
  • Maui Economic Development Board for Lanai Women’s Initiative to promote women’s health - $100,000
  • Kauai Economic Development Board Math and Science Education - $100,000
  • Kauai Children’s Discovery Museum and Garden Island Arts Council Joint Venture for Visitor Center construction - $200,000
  • Renovations for the Gregory House in Honolulu - $200,000
  • Development of the Henry Kuualoha Giugni Archives at the University of Hawaii - $100,000
  • Excellence in Economic Education Act to improve economic and financial literacy in schools - $1.5 million

"I am pleased that we were successful in getting funding approval for all these programs and projects because they are essential in improving conditions for those who need it," stated Senator Akaka. "Many of these projects will result in giving a necessary boost for communities that have been waiting for financial help to continue contributing to the betterment of Hawaii, whether it be in education, health, or economic development."
