AKAKA ANNOUNCES $15 MILLION AIRPORT SECURITY ENHANCEMENT GRANT FOR HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Honolulu, Hawaii – Honolulu International Airport will receive $15 million in federal funding for four (4) projects to enhance security at the airport, U.S. Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) announced today. The security enhancement projects, identified and funded under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 list of security projects, include: • $6 million to construct a new emergency operations center at the main terminal building; the existing command center will be renovated and expanded into a new emergency operations center. • $4.125 million to provide a new security facility at the Ewa Concourse. • $3.75 million to install an Access Control System; the current security access control system will be replaced. • $1.35 million to improve the terminal building access road to enhance vehicle access security. "Honolulu International Airport is one of our nation's most secure and well-managed airports," Senator Akaka noted. "These security enhancements will ensure the continued safety of the traveling public."
