HAWAII WOMEN'S BUSINESS CENTER RECEIVES SBA GRANT

October 20, 2004

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) announced that the Hawaii Women's Business Center (HWBC) has received a $75,150 grant from the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide training, counseling, and mentoring services to women entrepreneurs.

The HWBC provides business education opportunities for women entrepreneurs and business owners seeking to expand their businesses. With SBA support, the HWBC has expanded its efforts to help women reach financial self-sufficiency through a host of activities, including one-on-one counseling, business development seminars and workshops, and access to a computer laboratory with business development software.

"The HWBC plays an important role by providing vital assistance to entrepreneurs in Hawaii," Akaka said. "This funding will enable the HWBC to increase the financial literacy and skills necessary among women entrepreneurs to provide increased opportunities for individuals and help generate economic growth in Hawaii."
