Akaka Statement on the Loss of U.S. Soldiers
in Iraq Black Hawk Crash

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) issued the following statement in reaction to the loss of 14 U.S. soldiers in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in Iraq, including 10 based at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii: "I would like to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family members of the 14 soldiers who died yesterday. Their tragic deaths are a significant loss to not only their families but to the nation. I was particularly saddened to learn that a number of these soldiers were members of our local community. Please join me in honoring their selfless sacrifice." -30-
