Akaka Resolution Honoring Government Employees Passes Senate

May 2, 2007

Washington, D.C. - Today the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution (S. Res. 150)  introduced by U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) recognizing the contributions of federal, state, and local government employees during Public Service Recognition Week, which takes place May 7-13, 2007.  Cosponsoring the resolution are Senators George Voinovich (R-OH), Joseph Lieberman (ID-CT), Susan Collins (R-ME), Carl Levin (D-MI), Ted Stevens (R-AK), Tom Carper (D-DE), John Warner (R-VA), and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).  Representative Danny Davis, Chairman of the House Civil Service Subcommittee, introduced a companion resolution (H.Res. 307) in the House on April 17, 2007.

"Public Service Recognition Week draws needed attention to the valuable and often unrecognized contributions of federal, state, and local government employees.  Each day, public servants work to make government more effective and perform vital services with enthusiasm and professionalism on which America relies. I urge all Americans to celebrate the achievements of public servants, look for some small or large way to honor these dedicated men and women, and find their own way to answer the call to serve," Senator Akaka said.

Senator Akaka is the Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on the Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia on the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
