Lieberman Criticizes EPA's Move to Block State Greenhouse Gas Standards for Cars and Trucks

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) denounced last night's denial by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of California's request for a waiver of federal preemption with respect to the state's greenhouse gas emissions reduction requirements for passenger vehicles. The denial extends to the eleven other states, including Connecticut, that have adopted the California standards.

"I am disappointed that the administration has planted itself in the way of the states like Connecticut that are trying to protect their citizens from global warming," Lieberman said. "The administration should be spurring, not obstructing, efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that threaten our long-term economic health and national security."
