Dodd, Lieberman Announce Funds To Upgrade Litchfield's Emergency Communication Services

Washington, D.C. - A Litchfield County company will receive a federal loan of $300,000 to upgrade 911 call services in the community, Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. Litchfield County Dispatch, Inc., a non-profit call center that serves 19 northwest Connecticut towns, will use the funds to replace existing communications equipment with a more advanced high frequency band radio system and to add an alpha-paging network that will allow emergency dispatchers to respond more effectively to emergencies.

"It is critically important that emergency responders have top-flight equipment to do a most difficult job," said Dodd. "This loan can help by ensuring they have the best tools possible in times of need in Litchfield County."

"More advanced 911 call services mean more effective police and firefighter response to emergencies," Lieberman said. "The rural communities of Litchfield County deserve the best emergency communications technology available, and this loan will ensure they get it."

The loan is financed by the Rural Development program of the Department of Agriculture, which provides financial assistance to rural communities to support essential public facilities and services such as emergency service facilities, water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, and electric and telephone service.
