Tours

If you are planning a trip to our Nation's Capitol we would like to help you make the most of your stay. My staff may be able to coordinate tours for your group at the following locations: The United States Capitol Building, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. While every effort will be made to accommodate your tour request, due to limited availability and heightened security we ask that you let us know about your trip at least three months in advance of your arrival. While you are in Washington, DC I invite you to come to join me along with other constituents for coffee. Each Thursday, when the U.S. Senate is in session, my staff and I meet with Ohio constituents from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The location of the Coffee changes weekly, so please check the homepage to see the latest information.

  • The Bureau of Engraving and Printing

    Public tours of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing are offered Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During peak season, (March through August) tickets are required for all tours, and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The ticket booth is located on Raoul Wallenberg Place (formerly 15th Street). You may obtain tickets for the day of the tour only. The Ticket Booth opens at 8:00 a.m. - Monday through Friday, and closes when all tickets have been distributed. Lines form early and tickets go quickly, most days' tickets are gone by 9:00 a.m. Please plan accordingly. During non-peak seasons (September through February) no tickets are required. You may line up at the Visitors’ Entrance on 14th Street. Please allow 45 – 50 minutes from the time you enter the building until the end of your tour.

    Congressional tours of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing are also available. Because tours are limited and usually fill up several months in advance, it is strongly recommended that you submit your request at lease three months in advance.     The Capitol Building

    Tours of the Capitol Building are led by members of my staff. These tours are offered daily, Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. The tours depart from my office in the Russell Senate Office Building, Room 455. No reservations are necessary. NOTE: There will be no tours offered May 28th, 29th, or 30th.

    From Union Station Metro (Red Line):
    Exit Union Station and walk across the plaza (Columbus Circle) toward the ring of state flags. Cross the street encircling the plaza and continue south on Delaware Ave., NE. (You will be heading toward the Capitol.) Continue on Delaware Ave. and cross over C Street. The Russell Senate Office Building will be on your right. The most convenient entrance to the public for the Russell building is on Delaware Ave. and Constitution Avenue. My office is suite 455 in the Russell Senate Office Building (SR-455).


    From Capitol South Metro (Orange/Blue Line):
    Follow 1st St. approximately 3 blocks (you will pass the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court on your right) until you cross Constitution Ave. Turn left on Constitution and the Russell Senate Office Building will be on your right. The most convenient entrance to the public for the Russell building is on Delaware Ave. and Constitution Avenue. My office is suite 455 in the Russell Senate Office Building (SR-455).


    Public tours of the Capitol Building are also available through the Capitol guide service Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and use timed tickets. Tickets are distributed beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the kiosk at First St., SW and Independence Ave., across from the U.S. Botanical Garden. The Capitol Guide Service recommends arriving at the Capitol in the morning to get tickets for later that day.

    The Kennedy Space Center

    The Kennedy Space Center Visitor, opened 9 AM to 6 PM every day, except for December 25 and certain launch days, offers a highly interactive tour featuring the launch headquarters, launch pads, rockets, current and historical technology, with IMAX space movies, shows, and exhibits. The tour runs approximately 2 to 2 ½ hours and includes bus transportation into restricted areas, observation gantry on the Launch pad grounds, and to the Apollo-Saturn V Center Museum which features a restored Saturn V launch vehicle and other exhibits, such as the Apollo capsule. The observation gantry provides views of both launch pads and of the entire Kennedy Space Center property. Tickets are priced at $38 per adult and $28 for children ages 3-11 (tax not included) and can be purchased at the following site: http://www.ksctickets.com/.

    Due to its limited quantities, I have been informed that NASA has already exhausted its annual allocation of complimentary tickets for the Kennedy Space Center this year and therefore congressional tickets are no longer available. Regular priced tickets are still available and can be purchased at the website above.

    The Library of Congress

    Public tours of the Library of Congress are available Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.; and Saturday 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Docent-led public tours depart from the Great Hall of the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. Tours are limited to 50 people.     The Newseum

    Located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street, N.W., Washington DC, the 250,000 sq ft new museum features seven levels of galleries, theaters, and gift shops, with several information desks and visitor services on each level. Along with offering an in-depth and detailed account of up to five centuries of news history, the Newseum offers a one of a kind opportunity to take visitors behind the scenes to see how and why news was made during each time period. The Newseum is open every day of the week, 9 AM to 5 PM, and closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Tickets are priced as listed: $20 for Adults (ages 13 to64), $18 for Seniors (ages 65 and older), $13 for Youth (Ages 7 to 12), with children ages 6 and younger admitted for free. Tickets can be purchased at the ticketing kiosk or admissions desk in the Newseum or purchased in advance here.

    The Presidential Inauguration Ceremony

    The Presidential Inauguration Ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 20, 2009. The official website for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration has been launched by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) and features the most up-to-date information regarding the Presidential Inauguration day and events. Details on the ceremony are still being formulated and therefore individuals are highly encouraged to visit the website to get the most current information, which will be routinely updated as the committee solidifies plans for January 20, 2009.

    Inaugural Participation:

    Groups inquiring about participating in the inaugural events must submit a request to the Presidential Inaugural Committee, which is not due to form until after the November elections. The selection process will be solely conducted by this committee and participants will be chosen from the pool of requests received.     The Supreme Court

    The Supreme Court building is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tours, including a lecture in the Courtroom, are typically given every hour on the half-hour on days that the Court is not sitting, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m. A film and other exhibits on the Supreme Court are located on the ground floor.     The White House

    The White House has reopened for public tours on a very limited basis. My staff can request tickets on your behalf; however it is strongly recommended that you request your tour at least 3 months in advance, as White House tours book quickly, especially during peak season.
