Brown Statement Regarding DHL Eliminating Jobs At Wilmington Hub

June 3, 2008

Washington, D.C. – On the heels of an announcement by DHL that could result in the elimination of thousands of jobs in Ohio, United States Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today spoke with Wilmington Mayor David Raizk and met with DHL CEO John Mullen as well as representatives from ABX and its employees. Brown expressed his deep concern about the devastating effects such a move would have on Clinton and surrounding counties. Shortly after the meeting, Brown issued the following statement:

“The news that DHL may be eliminating thousands of jobs in Ohio is a call to action. I have dedicated a staff member to this issue and she will be in constant contact with the Governor’s office, community leaders, and the workers in Wilmington. We need to fight for the workers at the Wilmington facility and their families, as well as for the local businesses that would be undermined by job losses of this magnitude. In addition to my meetings today, I will work with the Governor, and will speak with the White House about what can be done about this from the federal level. We must put the working families affected by this situation first.”
