MERIDEN - The City Council has approved the acquisition of a Federal Transit Enhancement Grant to fund the installation of a new bus shelter at the corner of Research Parkway and Murdock Avenue.
The previous shelter at the location was destroyed by a motorist in August of 2001. The city pursued an insurance claim against the driver, but did not obtain enough to cover the cost of a new shelter, according to City Manager Lawrence J. Kendzior.
The bus shelter will cost $18,350, $3,760 of which the city will cover. The rest will be funded by the federal grant. The council approved the grant at its meeting Monday.
