Story Mansion is getting a ground floor makeover, but not everyone agrees with the decision.
Bozeman City Commission voted on the matter at its Monday night meeting.
Commissioner Jeff Krauss has always expressed strong concern for public use of the Story Mansion. In a phone conversation Tuesday, he said he still urges private ownership to completely preserve the mansion.
However, last night, with a packed house at the commission meeting, commissioners did not agree with Krauss, or Commissioner Eric Bryson. Both seem to be on the same page and are not in favor of public use of the facility.
Krauss said he only voted in favor of the $1.07 million renovation because the conditions include selling the property if the city could not raise just over $391,000 by January 2011.
The city must also use the $500,000 Save America's Treasures Grant by May 2009 or it loses the money.
The city plans to use just under $450,000 Story mansion project.
The project is expected to take about five months.
