Energy Star® Lighting Program

A typical Energy Star® rated Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) lasts up to 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb, meaning fewer bulb changes for that hard-to-reach light fixture. For the ultimate in convenience, some CFLs operate only after dark, or when motion is detected in the vicinity of the fixture - you don't even need to hit the switch!

Energy Star® CFLs come in a variety of shapes, color temperatures and brightness. And, since a CFL uses 75 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb, you save energy costs over the life of each bulb and minimize your impact on the environment.

Rebate Coupons

PSNH customers who purchase energy-efficient, Energy Star® CFL bulbs and fixtures can now save more through our Energy Star® Lighting Program. Participants in this program can receive instant rebate coupons redeemable at participating retailers in the following amounts:

  •   $2.00 - Energy Star® Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Bulbs
  • $10.00 - Energy Star® Interior, Exterior Light Fixtures and Torchiere Floor Lamps
  • View a sample coupon (PDF File Format 299 KB),
The coupons are available at participating retailers and in the nhsaves catalog which you can request below. Follow this link to find a participating New Hampshire retailer.

Recycle Fluorescent Bulbs

New Hampshire has a law that went into effect on January 1, 2008 requiring the proper disposal of fluorescent bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, a toxic heavy metal, which cannot just be tossed in the garbage with your other trash. There are local retailers and facilities that accept the bulbs for recycling. The retailers highlighted in green on this retailer list participate in free CFL recycling programs. You can also check with your local transfer station/recycling facility, or refer to this town list, to see if they accept them.

If a Fluorescent Bulb Breaks

Since fluorescent bulbs contain a small amount of mercury, special care should be taken to reduce mercury contamination. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has created a brochure that explains how to safely clean up after a fluorescent bulb breaks.
