2009 Presidential Inauguration Info

2005 Presidential Inauguration - US Capitol

On January 20, 2009, President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn-in as the 44th President of the United States.

Unfortunately, my office is no longer maintaining a wait list for constituents interested in attending the 2009 Inauguration on Capitol grounds. As you may know, I have received an overwhelming number of requests. While I would like to accommodate as many constituents as possible, our limited number of tickets has already been assigned to Texas constituents.

Should you wish to attend Inauguration events, I encourage you to review information listed below.

  • www.inauguration.dc.gov - The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced that the entire length of the National Mall will be opened to the public so that people will be able to witness the swearing-in of the President from a vantage point in sight of the Capitol. You can refer to the District of Columbia’s 2009 Presidential Inauguration website for more information on lodging information, transportation, security measures.
  • www.inaugural.senate.gov - The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies is responsible for the Swearing-In Ceremony taking place at the U.S. Capitol. You can also sign up for inaugural email updates through this website.
  • www.pic2009.org/content/home - For constituents interested in the Presidential Inaugural Parade and Presidential Inaugural Balls. The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) – established after the November election – is responsible for all official balls and galas hosted in honor of the newly-elected President.
  • www.afic.northcom.mil - Requests to participate in inauguration day events for marching bands, marching units, mounted units, and other performers are collected by the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee. Further information and an application to participate may be found at the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee’s website.
  • For individuals interested in attending regionally-sponsored inaugural balls, contact the respective state’s society for more information.

Please visit this site regularly, as it will be updated with information on inaugural activities. I look forward to seeing many of you in Washington, DC!
