U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs |
Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia |
|
Title: Assessing Telework Policies and Initiatives in the Federal Government |
Date: 6/12/07 |
Time (EST): 2:30 PM |
Place: Dirksen Senate Office Building, Rm. 562 |
The purpose of the hearing is to review the federal government’s telework policy and to discuss S. 1000, the Telework Enhancement Act of 2007.
Telework has become an increasingly critical component of the federal government’s efforts to develop continuity of operations plans (COOP) and to effectively manage its human capital. Furthermore, telework can help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce vehicle emissions. Under current law, agencies have the authority to develop strategic plans, train employees and managers, and implement workforce policies to promote telework. To further the development of such policies, legislation was recently introduced, S. 1000, the Telework Enhancement Act 2007, to increase the number of employees eligible to telework.
