December 11, 2008 Nevada Senator Harry Reid addressed the urgent need to pass legislation this week that would aid the declining auto industry and maintain thousands of jobs. With news that gaming wins in Nevada are down more than 22 percent — due in large part to rising unemployment and decreased consumer confidence — the Congress needs to act on behalf of Nevadans and all Americans. Nevada’s gaming and tourism industries rely heavily on a strong financial system and steady employment to invoke confidence in the economy and allow people to travel. When gaming and tourism suffer, Nevada suffers due to declining tax revenue. Senator Reid is urging his colleagues in Congress to take what action they can do now to stabilize our economy in this session. In January, Congress will continue to work on additional long- and short-term solutions to strengthen our economy and keep jobs here in the U.S. |
