Internships for Senator LautenbergWashington, D.C. OfficeA Senate internship is a great way for young people to see first hand how the Senate and their government functions. Interns will be paired with legislative staff based on their interests and experience. Interns will be conducting research, writing letters, and supporting the legislative staff. Additional administrative support work will also be required. Full and part time internships are available. For the Fall and Spring semesters class schedules will be taken into account. We expect interns during the school year to be able to work at least one full day and at least two half days. If you are applying for the Fall or Spring semester please include what days and hours you are able to work. For the summer we expect interns to be full time with the consideration for summer classes if applicable. Internships with Senator Lautenberg are unpaid. If your institution allows or requires college credit then that can be arranged. Our office is interested in interns with all majors and background. Preference is given to applicants from New Jersey. To apply for an internship please submit a resume, a writing sample or samples, cover letter, and contact information for three references. The writing sample(s) should demonstrate your writing skills and political knowledge. Application deadlines are as follows:
Applications may be submitted in any of the following ways:
You may reach the DC Intern Coordinator at (202) 224-3224 if you have any questions. *Please note that because of the 2001 anthrax attacks all mail sent to the Senate is now irradiated. All mail now takes about 4-6 weeks longer than usual to reach the office so please leave yourself enough time if you plan to mail your information. Also do not include any DVDs, CDs, or Videos as they will be rendered useless by the irradiation process. New Jersey OfficesSenator Lautenberg also offers internships in his New Jersey offices. The Senator has an office in Newark and one in Camden. Interns in the New Jersey offices will see how a state office functions and will work on local outreach and casework for our constituents. Casework usually involves helping constituents with Federal agencies. An example is helping someone get their visa. We will work to match work assignments with an intern’s interests and background. Interns will also help with administrative support. To apply for an internship please submit a resume, a writing sample or samples, and cover letter. Submit any references you wish.
