About the Database

The U.S. Department of Energy R&D Project Summaries database is a searchable database developed by the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI). The database provides access to summaries of ongoing or recently completed projects performed by the DOE laboratories and research facilities. These projects pertain to a variety of R&D disciplines, such as Science, Fossil Energy, Environmental Management, and Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. This application was developed by OSTI as a means for the DOE to educate and inform the general public of its R&D activities. The database includes projects that DOE sponsored through a variety of funding mechanisms, including grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements. Public access to DOE R&D Project Summaries is available in partnership with the Government Printing Office (GPO) through GPO Access.

R&D Project Summaries became available on the Web in June 1997 as a means for DOE to educate and inform the general public of its R&D activities. In 2004 the site was redesigned and the application was enhanced with advanced search features, allowing for search by Principal Investigator and more.

Open access to DOE R&D Project Summaries supports the Energy Department's interest in ensuring that scientific and technical information resulting from DOE's efforts is effectively managed for the benefit of the scientific community, U. S. industry, educators, and the public. The development of the database supports OSTI's mission to advance science and sustain technological creativity by making R&D findings available and useful to DOE researchers and the American people.
