Propane marketers sometimes face hazardous driving when helping customersHours-of-Service Exemptions
Winter 2008-2009

The 2008-2009 heating season began on October 1, 2008 and officially ends on March 31, 2009.

NPGA will archive on this page until fall 2009 the Winter 2008-2009 state emergency exemptions from the Federal hours-of-service (HOS) rules enforced by state transportation or police authorities.  NPGA posts these state-by-state exemptions on this page as soon as they are received at our Washington, D.C., headquarters.

State authorities issue HOS exemptions to a company's drivers during time of emergencies.  These HOS exemptions affect certain sections of the FMCSA rules which govern the operating hours for drivers of commercial motor vehicles.

The exemptions allow marketers to deliver critical propane heating supplies to their customers during times of severe weather, when bad roads cause significant delays in travel time to a customer's tank location.

If you have a copy of an in-force exemption that is NOT posted here, please e-mail it to Mike Caldarera, P.E. at mcaldarera@npga.org or via fax to 202-466-7205. Or you may mail it to us at the NPGA Washington address written at the bottom of this page. A clean copy of the exemption is preferred, but we will receive it in any condition to get the information out as fast as possible to propane marketers. NPGA depends on the industry and state associations to supply us with these exemptions, so your kind assistance in sending us these important documents is very much appreciated.
