WALSH NAMED HOUSING CHAMPION OF THE YEAR BY NYSPHADA

Honored for 'Steadfast and Strong Commitment to Affordable Housing'

(Syracuse, N.Y.)- Congressman Jim Walsh today received the Housing Champion of the Year award from the New York State Public Housing Authority Directors Association (NYSPHADA), a volunteer organization representing more than 50 small, medium and large public housing authorities across New York State.

“Congressman Walsh, we are here today to salute you for your tireless efforts on our behalf. We credit you personally for your many years of successful efforts to mitigate the effects of budget cuts on public housing authorities across the country,” Lawrence M. Vetter, president of NYSPHADA. “Your understanding, as a native of Syracuse, of all the factors that make New York public housing unique in the country - including the regulatory realities of Albany, our often severe weather, and the proud fact that New York State has the first, and therefore oldest, public housing stock – has been absolutely invaluable.”

NYSPHADA was created to provide information and education to housing authorities, and to advocate for federal and state policies that preserve and promote the mission of providing affordable housing.

Walsh, who serves on the House Appropriations Committee, was chairman of the VA/HUD Appropriations Subcommittee from 1999 to 2004, and a current member of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over HUD.
