KERRY, KENNEDY, TIERNEY ANNOUNCE GENERAL ELECTIC OF LYNN TO RECEIVE $96 MILLION TO BUILD HELICOPTER ENGINES FOR US ARMY

BOSTON - Senators John Kerry and Edward Kennedy, along with Congressman John Tierney today announced that General Electric of Lynn would receive $96,193,715 from the U.S. Department of Defense to build T700 Series Engines for the United States Army.

The T700 Engine is one of the strongest in the world and powers the AH-64 Apache, Black Hawk, Seahawk, and Pavehawk H-60 helicopters.
“This funding will help us keep faith with our brave men and women overseas. The powerful T700 Series engines are on the cutting edge of military performance and will help keep our troops and our homeland safe,” said Senator Kerry.

“Senator Kennedy is delighted the Army recognizes GE Lynn as a world leader in engine production. These helicopter engines are essential for our soldiers’ missions anywhere in the world. Massachusetts is proud to see GE Lynn leading the way,” said Kennedy spokesperson Melissa Wagoner.

“The employees at GE in Lynn are an exceptionally skilled and well-trained workforce, and this award evidences the confidence the Pentagon has in them,” said Congressman John F. Tierney (D-MA). “Along with Senators Kennedy and Kerry, I will continue fighting to see that these workers continue to receive the support they deserve."
