October 14, 2008 Reno, NV – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today spoke on the campus of the University of Nevada-Reno about Nevada’s role as the leader in a national clean energy revolution. Reid addressed the need to reduce our country’s reliance on limited fossil fuels and the progress being made by Congress to address our nation’s energy needs through long-overdue investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency. “We must address our state and country’s energy needs,” Reid said. “By utilizing Nevada’s abundance of solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass, we are working toward making our state the leader in clean, renewable energy. We not only will decrease our reliance on oil, but we will also create thousands of new, good paying jobs right here in the Silver State. The time to act is now.” The conference was held at Joe Crowley Student Union, a building that achieves environmental sustainability by incorporating energy efficiency, water conservation, and recycled building materials and furnishings.
