Reid Attends Boulder City Memorial Day Service

Senator Awards Purple Heart to Iraq War Veteran

May 26, 2008

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid addressed a crowd of hundreds of Nevadans and war veterans at the annual Memorial Day Service at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City.  During the ceremony, Reid paid homage to the eleven Nevadans killed in combat in the past year.  Reid also awarded a Purple Heart to Sharon Dixon, a Nevada Army National Guard Sergeant whose military vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Iraq in April, 2003.

“I’ve attended the Boulder City Memorial Day Service for many years now, and it’s always very moving,” Reid said.  “It is a somber truth that a nation dedicated to peace must prepare for and at times engage in war.  Today and every day, we honor, with solemn gratitude, those men and women who served this country courageously and selflessly.”
