WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D – IA) today announced that Iowa State University will receive $325,192 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for agricultural research.  Harkin is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

“Iowa State University is at the forefront of agricultural research with advancements in food production, plant and animal health, energy, and the environmental sciences that benefit the country,” said Harkin.  “These funds will allow them to continue to provide valuable information to the rest of the Iowa agricultural community and scientists around the country.  I congratulate them on being awarded this competitive grant.”

These funds will be used for research on natural products produced by plants that have a role in defending against various plant diseases.
